The tiny hamlet of Oberammergau, Germany, have been producing a Passion Play since 1633, when the villagers of the town promised to perform “the suffering, death and resurrection of Christ every tenth year”, as an offering and request to be spared from the plague that was spreading through Europe. Subsequent generations have kept that promise and will fulfill their ancestors’ vow once again, in 2022.
