Around 1,200 years ago, a monk followed a field of stars to a distant corner of Europe and discovered what appeared to be the long-lost tomb of St. James. They built a church on the spot and named the place Santiago (St. James) de Compostela (campo de estrellas, or “field of stars”). Today, pilgrims still follow “the way” of St. James and walk one of the many routes of the Camino.
